South & West Herts Community Anchor Offer

South & West Herts Anchor Programme

The Anchor Programme is a five-year initiative hosted by West Hertfordshire Hospitals Charity, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and delivered in partnership with West Hertfordshire Neighbourhood Integrator CIC (WHNI CIC).

The programme works across South and West Hertfordshire to strengthen community and VCFSE infrastructure, improve neighbourhood connectivity and support more sustainable, community led approaches to health and wellbeing, working alongside wider neighbourhood and proactive care approaches across the system

Community Small Grants Programme

Funding of £500 to £10,000 is available for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations and groups supporting people living with cancer, long term conditions and/or frailty across South and West Hertfordshire.

Phase 1: Building with People and Communities

Phase 1 focused on building with people and communities through conversations, engagement activity and relationship building across South and West Hertfordshire. The work brought together community organisations, people with lived experience, health and care partners and wider stakeholders to better understand barriers to access, strengthen local connections and explore more sustainable community led approaches to health and wellbeing.

“I shouldn’t have to fight to access help or chase ten different people. Organisations need to communicate with each other so I don’t fall through the cracks.” Resident

Phase 2: From insight to action

Building on the relationships, insight and learning developed through Phase 1, the programme is now supporting neighbourhood-based engagement, local partnership working and community conversations across South and West Hertfordshire. The next phase of work focuses on understanding barriers to access in practice, strengthening local connectivity and exploring opportunities for more joined up neighbourhood support.

Mapping Communities and Support

The programme is developing a neighbourhood-based mapping approach to better understand local support networks, trusted relationships and community connectivity across South and West Hertfordshire.

Dacorum Community Information Day

Held in March 2026, the Dacorum Community Information Day brought together over 60 representatives from local VCFSE organisations, community groups, health and care services and wider partners to share insight into the different communities they support, how people access support in practice and the barriers affecting access, engagement and connectivity across Dacorum.
