Please help our hospitals continue

caring for generations.

You can make a huge difference in our charity’s 30th anniversary year.

West Herts Hospitals Charity is fundraising for four projects that will transform care for thousands of patients. Your gift will help us to…

…Replace a vital end-of-life neonatal echo machine.

Eight years ago, we purchased a neonatal echo machine for our smallest and most vulnerable patients. After constant use, the device is now beginning to fail and urgently needs replacing.

Your support will help us invest in new, advanced technology that enables faster and safer diagnosis for newborns and children up to 16. A new scanner will give vulnerable babies the best possible start by ensuring they receive the right treatment at the right time.

“The old scanner isn't fully reliable. We need a new one now."

…Create a calmer, dignity-led dementia ward and activity room.

Our dementia ward was never originally designed to accommodate dementia patients. Refurbishing and reconfiguring the space would have a huge impact on those who use it.

Your support will create a dedicated activities room, better lighting, dementia-friendly colours, and a safer, more comforting space for patients and families.

“If there had been a quiet room on the dementia ward, I might have seen glimpses of the husband I once knew.”

…Install sensory equipment and interactive play features in outpatient waiting areas.

Each year, over 7,500 children have to sit and wait in clinical adult outpatient areas with nothing stimulating to occupy their time. Your support will enable us to install sensory equipment, interactive play, textured walls and calming light features that will help pass the time, encourage the children to return and reduce anxiety for families.

“Thousands of children wait here for their appointments – bored, frustrated or playing with uninspiring toys.”

…Provide brighter, more engaging and welcoming side rooms for seriously unwell children.

Your support will allow us to refurbish isolation side rooms and bathrooms with new flooring, child-friendly décor, working TVs, storage, softer lighting and comfortable parent beds. Nobody wants to stay in hospital for weeks on end, but your support can make the experience more homely, positive and bearable for children and families who have to isolate due to their illness.

“We were stuck staring at four bare walls for weeks. It didn’t feel like a children’s space: bland and depressing.”

"During my stay on Starfish Ward at Watford, I was treated in one of the isolation side rooms. As someone who experienced the challenges of being isolated during treatment, I know how important it is to feel safe and comfortable in that space. Although the room provided protection for me, it often felt quite lonely and clinical. Supporting the Caring for Generations Appeal is personal to me because refurbishing these side rooms will create a warmer, more welcoming environment for patients facing similar journeys to mine. It means a lot to help improve not only the physical surroundings but also the emotional wellbeing of those undergoing treatment."
