Maternity Bereavement Appeal

A special space for families who experience the heartbreaking loss of a baby has opened at Watford General Hospital following a fundraising appeal by West Herts Hospitals Charity, in partnership with the hospital’s maternity bereavement service.

The room now features a double bed, a comfortable environment for families to grieve and an area to prepare drinks. Books for families and siblings, along with hand and foot casting services, provide lasting memories and coping resources.

The new space features LED skylights and double bed, and an area to prepare drinks.

Supporters of the maternity bereavement room were invited to see the Rose Room for the first time, which provides a dedicated area for families to reflect and support each other.

In the UK, one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and every day 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth. The death of a baby is devastating for parents, families, and the staff who support them. Watford General Hospital’s maternity bereavement service has been running for eight years, offering vital support to families during their most difficult times.

We will continue fundraising for the Rose Room to ensure it remains a comforting space, providing bereavement books for families and siblings and 3D hand and foot casting services to help provide lasting memories.
