The Memory Trail

Join The Memory Trail to support our Dementia appeal. 

Lace up your walking shoes and make a difference! On Sunday 5 October 2025, we invite you to take part in The Memory Trail, a special 11-mile fundraising trek in support of the Dementia unit at Watford General Hospital.

Route

This scenic route, in partnership with the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership, begins at St Albans City Hospital. You’ll follow the beautiful Abbey Line Trail, passing St Albans Abbey and winding through the Hertfordshire countryside, before finishing at Watford General. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful views and the company of fellow trekkers – all walking together to support and improve dementia care for our local community. Every step you take helps to create a better environment for our most vulnerable patients.

What to Expect

Whether you prefer walking as part of a group or setting your pace, this family-friendly event is open to everyone aged 12 and over (children must be accompanied by an adult). You’ll receive a route map and can choose to be guided by the event team or navigate the trail at your own pace. Our marshals will be stationed along the route to provide encouragement and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Registration will start from 08.00 hrs with participants departing every 15 minutes. Walks will start from 08.15 onwards in 15 minute increments up to 9.30 hrs. Participants will be allocated a departure time between 08.15-09.30 hrs, please email westherts.hospitals@nhs.net if you have a preference on your departure time.

• Group 1 registration time – 08.00 – start walk 08.15 – Self guided
• Group 2 registration time – 08.15 – start walk 08.30 – Self-guided
• Group 3 registration time – 08.30 – start walk 08.45 – Self-guided
• Group 4 registration time – 08.45 – start walk 09.00 – Self-guided

• Group 2 registration time – 09.15 – start walk 09.30 – Guided
