Who We Are

Hello. I am Ubaid and I am a volunteer for the Trust. I am a Senior Diversity and Inclusion Adviser within policing, but I like to spend some of my spare time in the community and doing what I can to make a difference to someone’s world.

In this space, I have done many roles that have given me perspective and insight, and have helped me grow and learn over time. I can apply these skills and experiences to many roles within my professional life but also in my personal life. I’ve come to be aware of my own privileges, my own biases, and my own strengths and limitations. Volunteering has opened many worlds to me that I may never have come to understand. For example, I was a telephone help liner for Survivors UK. I spent some time with shelters for the homeless. I was a social support volunteer for Barnardo’s. I led as the Policy and Strategy Lead for a police force’s LGBT+ Network, and I was an adviser for this force’s Independent Advisory Group. I am a co-founder of the UK’s first LGBT+ Muslim organisation, Imaan and I was instrumental in developing it as its secretary for a few years. I was the chair of London’s largest LGBT+ badminton club, Goslings and most recently, apart from volunteering for the Trust, I advise Tell MAMA – an organisation that advocates for hate crime victims.



Outside of all this, I love to travel – ideally somewhere warm where I can learn and immerse myself in the history, architecture, and culture. I am a culture vulture, and I am more likely to be found in a cinema or a theatre or on my couch reading or catching up on the latest tv dramas. I am fluent in a couple of South Asian languages. I do lots of fitness to me healthy mentally and physically such as running, playing badminton and cycling.
