Step up for health and celebrate the NHS’s 77th birthday at Vicarage Road Stadium

Step Up, a unique stair climbing challenge in the home of the Hornets, is taking place on Saturday 5th July 2025, at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road Stadium – a date that also marks the 77th birthday of the NHS. This exciting event will raise funds for West Herts Hospitals, and our neighbour Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.

Participants will have the chance to run, walk, or climb their way up and down the stands of the 20,000+ seater stadium. With chip timing available, participants can set personal goals, compete with friends, or simply focus on finishing the challenge. All funds raised will support the health and wellbeing of thousands of local people.

This fundraising event will see you scale the equivalent of climbing up and down the iconic Empire State Building.

Included in the registration fee:
• Chipped timing
• Refreshments along the route
• Medal upon completion
• Goody bag

There are two routes available:
• Full route (All stands) 9.30am registration
• Half route ( One & half stands) 9.00am registration

Alison Rosen, CEO at West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to support our NHS on its 77th birthday. Every step taken will help enhance patient care and support our incredible NHS staff at West Herts Hospitals. We are delighted to be partnering with Watford FC Trust again and look forward to seeing the local community come together for this special event.”

We are also thankful to our headline sponsors at the Trust, Skechers, who are joining us with this unique challenge. We look forward to seeing all Steppers at Vicarage Road, helping us mark the NHS’s birthday in this special way.

Fun for all ages
The event is family-friendly, with two categories available:
• Adults (18 years and over): £15 registration fee
• Young people (6–18 years): £5 registration fee

Think you can reach new heights and take on the challenge?

Why choose to support West Herts Hospitals Charity?

We are the official hospital charity dedicated to supporting patient care across West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, staff in our three hospitals can provide a level of patient care beyond that which would be possible with NHS funding alone.

Charitable donations help fund the latest technology, environmental enhancements, staff development and extra comforts that make such a difference to patients, day after day.
