Watford FC Women’s midfielder and Charity Ambassador, Anna Filbey, is trading the football pitch for the skies as she prepares for a sponsored skydive to raise funds for West Herts Hospitals.
The announcement comes at a time of high spirits for the club, as Watford FC Women recently secured promotion back to the Women’s Championship. After a hard-fought season, the Golden Girls clinched the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title, ensuring their return to the second tier of English football.
Filbey, who joined the Hornets ahead of the 2024/25 season and quickly made her mark by winning the Watford FC Women’s Goal of the Season award, is now shifting her focus to the skies. Having served as an Ambassador for West Herts Hospitals Charity since May 2025, Anna is committed to helping our local NHS hospitals go above and beyond core NHS funding.
Taking a leap for the Starfish Ward
On 20 June 2026, Anna will take part in a skydive to support our charity’s Caring for Generations appeal. The funds raised through this daredevil feat aims to help fund the refurbishment of isolation rooms on the Starfish children’s ward at Watford General Hospital.
This project aims to transform clinical side rooms into brighter, more engaging, and welcoming spaces for children who are seriously unwell. The refurbishment plans include:
- Vibrant, child-friendly décor and new flooring.
- New televisions and improved storage for personal belongings.
- Softer, adjustable lighting to create a calming atmosphere.
- Comfortable beds for parents, ensuring they can stay close to their children.
No child wants to stay in hospital for weeks on end, but these improvements will make the experience more homely, positive, and bearable for children who must isolate due to illness.
‘An inspiring cause‘
Anna Filbey expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge:
“It has been a privilege to serve as an ambassador for West Herts Hospitals Charity over the past year. The work they do to help our local NHS hospitals go above and beyond is inspiring, and I am excited to be doing a skydive to raise vital funds for the Caring for Generations appeal. Hospitals can often be stressful places, especially for children who must isolate. I am proud to represent the charity as we celebrate a successful season on the pitch by making the hospital environment more welcoming for young patients.”
Alison Rosen, Chief Executive Officer of West Herts Hospitals Charity, added:
“We are delighted to have Anna’s continued support as an Ambassador, especially at such an exciting time following the team’s promotion. Since joining us in May 2025, Anna’s commitment to supporting our local NHS hospitals has been fantastic. We are incredibly grateful that she is literally taking a leap of faith to help us raise money for the Caring for Generations appeal. Every pound donated will make a difference to the care and experience of patients and their families across West Hertfordshire.”
